Kate's Picks: 5 of My Favorite Outfits From January | Wit & Delight

I’m getting dressed in intentional outfits again and it feels good.

Maybe it’s partially the energy that comes from a new haircut, complete with fringe bangs, or maybe it’s the promise of a new year, or perhaps it’s that weekend I spent organizing my clothing by category, then by color. Whatever the reason, this shift has been memorialized and presented to you here, in the form of five of my favorite outfits I wore last month. Because when every day feels the same, I don’t know how else to mark the passing of time other than to capture its nuance on the Internet.

Without further ado, these are the outfits that brightened my days last month…

Outfit #1: Oversized turtleneck, vintage denim, loafers (shown above)

Ever since I got it, I find that I rarely want to take this sweater off. It’s from babaà, a brand I’ve always toyed with buying from but never pulled the trigger. I’m so glad I finally did. It is THE oversized sweater, made with beautiful local wool and crafted with care. They tell me it will be an heirloom piece and I’m caring for it accordingly. 90-year-old me would wear some version of this look, I like to think.

The natural color I’m wearing is out of stock, but there are other colors available! Similar products are linked below as well.

Outfit #2: Bright jumpsuit and shoes, gray sweater

Jumpsuits are a godsend for people who like to pull together outfits with minimal effort. I always get stalled around what pants look best with certain tops! This solves that conundrum, especially when you’re mentally tapped out while getting dressed. I paired this very cool Topo Designs jumpsuit with brightly colored sneakers and a sweater scarf for some added dimension.

An added bonus? This jumpsuit is multi-purpose. I wear it around the house and over layers when I head outside with the kids. It’s water resistant, warm but still breathable, and has pull ties around the waist if you want a more tailored look. 10/10 would recommend!

Outfit #3: Black turtleneck, leggings, sneakers

If you do not have an oversized black turtleneck tunic on your capsule wardrobe list, I’m going to tell you why you should add it. It looks great with every kind of pant you can imagine. Here I’m using it to dress up some Lululemon yoga pants. I wore it when I was pregnant with both kids and long after. And, if you buy one that is high quality and care for it properly, it will look new, year after year.

I call this look my “grocery getter” look, and it was fully inspired by the woman who inspired my new haircut: Leia Sfez. Add some retro tube socks, New Balance sneakers, and a French marled gray coat, and you’re good to go in style and comfort.

Outfit #4: Patterned jacket, vintage denim, loafers

Giddy up little pony! This jacket is something I previously would have saved for a particular occasion but it makes my lizard brain happy so I figured, why not wear it on a Tuesday night to serve my kids yet another dinner of fish sticks? Contrasting socks are always a fun way to mix up outfits when wearing loafers—a staple in my looks since 2013.

Outfit #5: Flowy dress, cozy cardigan, classic Converse

This is a case for not putting those summer dresses away. Another heirloom babaà piece really makes the sweater over your dress look work. For my frame, I find that a sweater that hits at my hip is a more flattering shape than an oversized one when wearing it atop a dress. Add some sneakers and put your hair half up in a bun and the look is complete.
